Extending the BarberCore Dashboard Beyond the Screen
BarberCore is designed to keep barbers informed without demanding constant attention. That philosophy does not stop at the web dashboard.
I am currently working on a physical dashboard prototype built on a Raspberry Pi. This device connects directly to the BarberCore platform via the API and brings key information out of the browser and into the shop itself.
What this prototype includes
- Two OLED displays for clear, always visible information
- Eight individual LED indicators for quick status signals
- One RGB LED for high level visual notifications
The goal is not to replicate the full dashboard. It is to surface only what matters in the moment, using light and minimal text rather than screens and clicks.
How it works
The device consumes live data directly from the BarberCore API. No manual input is required.
Based on real time platform state, the displays can show:
- Upcoming bookings
- Bookings that need attention
- Current shop status
- Simple daily summaries
The LEDs act as visual signals. Different lights can indicate when everything is under control or when an action is required. The RGB LED can be used for higher priority states that should be visible from across the shop.
Why a physical dashboard
Barbers should not need to check their phone or dashboard constantly. Important information should be visible at a glance while working.
- Zero interaction monitoring
- Instant awareness without distraction
- Clear signals during busy periods
- Less time looking at screens
This follows the same principle as the BarberCore dashboard itself. If nothing needs attention, the system stays quiet. When something does, it becomes visible immediately.
Still a prototype
This is an early hardware prototype and an exploration of how BarberCore can extend beyond traditional software. The focus is on usefulness, clarity, and restraint rather than adding complexity.
Nothing here is about novelty. It is about making the system more present in the shop without being intrusive.
Looking ahead
This prototype helps explore how BarberCore can support barbers in real physical spaces, not just on screens. As with everything in the platform, decisions will be guided by real workflows and real usefulness.
More refinements and experiments will follow.
